As we wrap up our Giving Day 2024 we are delighted to report that we have raised just over £21,000, with donations still coming in. We send a huge thank you to all who supported the day, with particular thanks to those who made pledges that encouraged others and drove donations to the four Giving Day Funds.
We are especially pleased to report that all challenges were completed, thanks to ready responses from OBs, parents and from pupils themselves. 30 OB donations to the Chapel and Heritage Fund very quickly unlocked £750 for the Chapel and Heritage Fund; two Donor Milestone Challenges released matched funding for the Foundation, with similar success in unlocking £1,000 to the Giving Back Fund.
Thanks to ongoing support for the Chapel and Heritage Fund, work is already underway for securing the future of several of our historical artefacts, including the most recent project of restoring the ancient stalls usually located in the antechapel. 2024 Giving Day Donations to the Chapel and Heritage Fund will enable us to plan ahead for further important projects. We thank all those whose sterling support is making an active difference to the way we are able to look after the physical heritage of the school.
Throughout the day St Nick’s took centre stage, their various activities in colourful non-uniform costumes generating much interest in Giving Day in school. With encouragement from older pupils and participation by the sports staff and the Head, our youngest pupils completed a momentous 1541 laps round the ‘Mickey Mouse’ helped by cheers and fist bumps from older pupils along the way. Thanks to their efforts and donations to the newly etablished Pupil Opportunity Fund, exciting plans are in place for a Reading Shed: a cosy spot for curling up with a book.
Again this year, we took hundreds of donations for Brecon Food Bank. Our pupils and parents seem never to flinch at requests to support this important local charity, as confirmed by the bags and boxes piling up in the Neuadd.
Encouraged by a prize towards a social event for the winning House, generously given by the Old Breconian Association, de Winton secured by some distance the highest number of Giving Day donations, including from many of the current de Winton residents. Well done, de Winton!
With the Leaderboard encouraging Houses, and OBs in generous spirit, the tally for indvidual donations surpassed last year's by some way, with 209 donors giving to one of the Four Funds for GD2024. Throughout the day it was especially heartening to see involvement from our pupils – whether little legs running laps, strong arms carrying boxes, fist bumps from encouraging seniors or competitive clicking of GD2024 links to win a prize.
As we wrap up a successful day, Giving Day is now officially ended. If you missed your chance to make a donation, you can do so at any time via the Support Us page.
And finally, Development Director, Martyn Thomas, offers his heartfelt thanks to all those who supported our second Giving Day.
A huge thank you to all who donated on the day or who took part in the many activities that went on in school. We are very grateful indeed to all who supported our second Giving Day, current pupils and their parents as well as OBs and their families. Your support really makes a difference. Thank you.
