Saturday School - Trail Running, Mynydd Llangors

To the surprise of many Old Breconians, it is a while since pupils experienced lessons on a Saturday morning. Saturdays are now a time for pupils to get out of the classroom and get involved with a range of experiences that allow them to explore their talents, try something new or have time to enjoy the stunning environment beyond the school site.

With the programme for Saturdays led by the well established Second Curriculum, the first Saturday of the year delivered a thrilling start to 2023/24. Embracing the exceptional weather, pupils enthusiastically engaged with a varied range of activities and events that left everyone eagerly anticipating the weeks to come.

Danni Patterson, Houseparent of de Winton and Lead School Life, describes the highlights of the first Saturday of term.

Mountain Trail Running: Nature lovers and adventure seekers hit the trails in the mountains, embracing the great outdoors and challenging their physical limits. Breathtaking scenery provided the perfect backdrop for a morning of fantastic trail running.

Debating: Minds clashed and ideas flourished as the groups engaged in thought-provoking discussions. Senior pupils showcased their skills in rhetoric and critical thinking in response to some stimulating motions on school curriculum delivery!

Revved Up in SIM Racing: The world of virtual racing came alive as SIM racers battled it out in immersive virtual environments. Precision, strategy, and adrenaline-pumping action were the order of the day for the team of racers.

Paddle Sports and Kayaking: Water enthusiasts took to their vessels, kayaking and indulging in paddle sports. Climbing and mountaineering also made for an adventurous morning for Alway pupils.

Sports and Drama: From fun-filled football matches and exciting basketball to inspiring tennis sessions and a busy girls rugby session, the sporting world did not disappoint. Our performing arts department introduced the material for this year’s production as well as a dance workshop.

Saturday proved to be a successful start to the school year, offering a glimpse of what 2023/24 has in store and showing the diverse range of adventures and experiences available to pupils in the coming year.
