Last Month it was a real pleasure for Andrew (ALP) Lewis, who is the current Worshipful Master, to welcome Old Breconian, Huw Price, into Freemasonry at the Breconock Lodge No. 651. They were joined on the evening by fellow OBs Ian Lumby and Lewis Morgan.  Freemasonry is one of the UK’s most active charitable communities, with members donating millions of pounds each year and supporting local community causes. It also brings people together in friendship and shared purpose.  We think there re currently 24 OB's that are Masons. If you are a Mason and haven't received an email recently then please let us know.

Freemasonry means different things to each of those who join. For some, it’s about making new friends and acquaintances. For others it’s about being able to help deserving causes – making a contribution to family and society. But for most, it is an enjoyable hobby.Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. It teaches self-knowledge through participation in a progression of ceremonies.

Records in Grand Lodge London show that Freemasonry began in Brecon as far back as 1764 and first met at the Sun Inn, Wheat Street, Brecon, but this seemingly lapsed until 1789 when the Cambrian Lodge was formed meeting at the Swan Inn, Brecon.
Although the seed of Freemasonry had been sown in the early days of the Cambrian Lodge the growth had not been sustained, but with the foresight of Brethren from St. Peter’s Lodge Carmarthen the Brecknock Lodge was founded and Consecrated on 28th July 1855 at the Castle Hotel, Brecon.
On the 25th January 1928 the foundation stone was laid for the current Masonic Hall by the Rt. Worhipful Provincial Grand Master Sir Charles L.D. Venables Llewellyn. The final cost of the Masonic Hall was £1,316.
