OBGS v Old Llandoverians
Cradoc GC 8th September 2023
A great day's golf, played in the best of spirits, was made even more enjoyable by a 4 points to 3 win!
It was genuinely fantastic to be met (albeit an hour early) by a 20 strong contingent of Old Llandovarians, with some very old friendships and universal long-standing rivalries re-joined on a glorious Summer's day.
With the opposition keen to get going, and issues over buggy availability eventually, thankfully, overcome, the match got off to an early and slightly disjointed start. Once started, however, the matches settled into an easy paced and easy going rhythm and, with one notable exception (in our favour), evenly matched contests; with one match clinched by, I am told, a forty yard (or was it feet … or inches ?) putt on the last ! All matches were played, as I said, in the best of spirits and enjoyed by all.
The match outcome was: 2 games halved, 2 games lost and 3 games won; giving us a 4 points to 3 win.
The Head very graciously attended to say a few words, raise a toast in memory of our greatly missed friend and OB stalwart Mike Muir and to present the trophy to the winning captain.
The fabulous 'match tea' gave everyone present a full chance to reminisce and catch-up (in some cases, make up) and have a drink or two with OBs and OLL's alike, generating a really good post 'Llandov match' atmosphere.
All-in-all, I hope, a really good day was had by all.
I would also like to take the opportunity to apologise again to my teammates and the Head for not being able to personally spend as much time with them as I would have liked and for the disjointed nature of pre and post match proceedings. I hope and trust you understand that this was not entirely within my control.
I would also, for the record, like to thank the staff and management of Cradoc for their understanding, patience and professionalism throughout the day and beyond.
Running total to date Brecon 22; Llandovery 13; and three halves.
The OBGS team for the day was :
