This year for the first time five L6 Scholars were translated to named scholars for their U6 in recognition of their proven record of scholarship and commitment.

The 2024/25 named scholars announced on Prize Day were:

The Bishop Lloyd Scholar is Harley T. Awarded to a L6 scholar for a high level of academic scholarship in a specific area.

The Lord Atkin Scholar is Tadhg I. Awarded to a L6 scholar for high academic achievement, and excellence in critical thinking and oracy.

The Emma Taylor Scholar is Elsie J. Awarded to a L6 scholar for excellence in at least one area of the curriculum and a high level of commitment to school life.

The Phil Skinner Sports Scholar is Alexander M. Awarded to a L6 Sports Scholar for excellence in their chosen sport and a high level of commitment to school sport.

The Hugh Phillips Music Scholar is Ben M. Awarded to a L6 Music Scholar for musical excellence and a high level of commitment to school music.

You can read more about the individual scholars in the 2024 Prize Day programme

Prize Day was a good chance to get together Emma Taylor and Elsie. Fully involved in the Senior Essay Society, Debating and Choir, Elsie plans to study Economics and International Relations at university. With Ben, Elsie is appointed Head of School for 2024/25; the next academic year will be certainly be a busy one for both of them. We think Emma Taylor would thoroughly approve!

I am incredibly grateful to be the Emma Taylor Taylor Scholar, and I look forward to representing the school both as a Scholar and as Head of School in 2024/25.

Scholarships such as those named on Prize Day this year are supported by generous donations to the Foundation and Schoalrship Fund made by Old Breconians and their families, and by parents and benevolent friends of Christ College. In September 2023 such warm-hearted generosity enabled us to award scholarships to 13 new Sixth Formers and 6 younger pupils. These talented new scholars joined those already supported through the Foundation and its funds. In addition, we were able to offer a wide range of life-changing Bursaries to motivated young people who may not otherwise have been able to join the school.

On behalf of Harley, Tadhg, Elsie, AJ, and Ben, and all our Scholars and our Bursary holders, we say a heartfelt thank you to all those who so willingly support the Foundation and its funds so that we can continue to support talented and motivated young people through our Scholarships programme and Bursaries provision.
