150 entrants took part in the second CCB Mountain Challenge place on Sunday 7th May in the Brecon Beacons. For this year only it was renamed as the Coronation Mountain Challenge.

Conditions were perfect for the three routes – 10, 13 and 23 miles. It was good to see so many teachers and pupils out on the course with St Nicks and Alway pupils doing the 10 and 13 mile courses.

Many thanks to the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team who manned Event Control and the checkpoints on the 13 and 23 mile routes. Thanks also to Andrew Chainey of Tantrwm Events, and to all the CCB staff who volunteered to assist on the day and helped to make it such a success.

There were some great individual and family performances:

On the 10 mile course first home were mother and daughter Sonia and Bronessa Hawking with a time of 2h 39 mins. There were very creditable performances too from the Langley and Capon families with Hannah Langley, Tom Langley and Evan Capon coming in at 3h 11 closely followed by the rest of the family at 3h 12.

On the 13 mile course John Thompson came in first with 2h 22 and the first woman home was Angela Price with a time of 3h 19. Also on the 13 mile course was a good effort from father and son Matthew and Oliver Dorise-Turrell  with a time of 3h 23.

On the 23 mile route Matthew Brushell was first home at 4h 28 with father and daughter Sam and Efanna Hawking at 5h 02. There were also some great performance from CCB staff with Rhiannon Goodrich, Barney Goodrich and Clive Thomas in at 7h 31. The Head and Will McLean, a parent, posted a good time of 7h 44.  CCB staff member Robin Francis and his father David came in with a very respectable 8h 22.

All in all it was a great day as well as a fundraiser for the CCB Foundation and the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team. The event will take place annually and next year's date will be announced very soon.

Many thanks to Sam Hawking, our sponsor for the event.
