Many Happy Returns to our oldest Old Breconian - Maj. John Evans (Hostel, 34-40) - 100 today.
In his last term at CCB he captained the 1st XV v Llandovery to a 3-3 draw (I try for with 1 Penalty against) which brought to an end 13 successive defeats against the old enemy. It was so monumental that the editorial in that terms Breconian was dedicated to it.
In celebration the head at the time let the whole school off 'prep'. John did manage to go for a beer with the manager from Barclays Bank (Its a long story!)
He fought in WW2 and was captured as a prisoner of war. He was a paratrooper and a Major in the Welsh Regiment.
Originally from Tregaron in West Wales and from a farming family he now lives in Usk.
It was an honour to be in his company this morning.
