This Charity Fundraiser category, sponsored by Amazon, reflects someone who has selflessly given their time to raise funds for a charity, to make a difference in people's lives. The finalists have improved many lives through their generosity and determination. Fundraising goes further than the monetary donations, it encourages community wellbeing and promotes compassion.
Des Lally
Des Lally from Brecon is an exemplary volunteer who took it upon himself to climb Pen y Fan 365 times in 365 days, raising an incredible £60,000 for Cancer Research UK and Help For Heroes.
In all winds and weathers, the mortgage broker donned his now infamous pink tights and orange scarf and climbed the highest peak in South Wales each day to raise money and awareness for two charities close to his heart.
Wanting to add to his title of 'the legend of Pen y Fan' bestowed upon him by loyal supporters and well-wishers, Des' next quest to raise funds is the 6633 Arctic Ultra. The fundraising challenge will see him trek 380 miles on ice across the Arctic circle, pulling a sled in temperatures under -30 degrees.
