Medieval stalls come home

It was an exciting moment yesterday to see the medieval stalls back in their place in the Antechapel. During their time away in the expert hands of Noel Gaskell, they have received woodworm treatment and enlivening restorative treatment. Structurally they are now robust and secure. Cracks have been managed with hidden fixings and hinges have been honestly replaced or restored to allow the seats to be lifted without fear of further damage or broken toes. More than anything, they are now glowing from the care they have received and the ancient wood is breathing again. We all appreciate the work Noel has undertaken and the way he has shared his expertise so willingly.

The work has been made possible by the Chapel and Heritage Fund. On behalf of the stalls and their misericords, we say a big thank you to all our donors.

We also owe a big thank you to our our terrific Estates team. Led by Simon Evans, they have managed delivery of these hefty artefacts from and to the Chapel. The team never flinches from helping to look after the school's heritage, and we say a big thank you to Pete Junior, Peter Senior, Fraser and Hayley.
