Two important projects have been completed during the Easter break thanks to donors on Giving Day 2026: installation of air-conditioning in the Neuadd and restoration of the WW1 Memorial tablet in the Antechapel. In many respects, the recently completed projects couldn’t be more different, but each one was carefully chosen to enhance an important aspect of school life.

Close to the heart of our legendary Theatre Technician, David Grant, the Giving Day 2026 Pupil Opportunity Fund project – aka the DRG Appeal – aimed to raise funds for installation of air-conditioning in the auditorium.

The lack of temperature control in the auditorium has been a flaw in our Neuadd facilities for some time. The installation of A-C will make a noticeable difference to the theatre experience.

Donors to the appeal responded swiftly and generously to help reach the target of £20,712. Led by an initial pledge for matched funding from DRG himself, funds for Phase One of the project were secured before the close of Giving Day. Further gifts ensured that the whole project could be completed ahead of the new term.

It was an exciting moment to see multiple units dramatically lifted into place on the roof of the Neuadd at the beginning of the Easter break. Less dramatic has been the internal installation of all the other techical components, but the complex process is almost complete and we look forward to enjoying the comfort of the new facility in the coming term.

Our grateful thanks to everyone who helped DRG reach the appeal target.

Thank you.
