Giving Day has begun with an energetic start. The Food Bank Challenge was met by pupils by 8.30am this morning. Thanks to this extraordinary feat of generosity by pupils and parents, more than 500 items are on site ready to donate to Brecon Food Bank. Supported by the Tressell Trust, Brecon Food Bank is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks that rely on local donations to support local people.
More items are arriving in Y Neuadd by the hour, enabling us to support the local community while also successfully meeting the challenge set by a generous parent. Mr Feasey's' pledge of £1,000 will be released by the success of the challenge and added to the Bursaries and Scholarships Fund.
At the same time, a Sixth Form team has set up base in the Conference Room - once the attic of the Old Chem Labs. The first shift this morning began with calls to Old Breconians in Australia and New Zealand.
Thanks to our supporters, we have already received donations of more than £20,000 from the Christ College community. More promises are yet to be logged and counted but Orchard currently leads the House leaderboard for donors.
By mid-morning, donations to the Chapel and Heritage Fund currently stood at almost £5,000 and the Pavilion Fund reached almost £10,000.
Our first Giving Day is certainly turning out to be a day of giving and we thank all our donors for their generosity and support.
Our next challenge is to release £2,000 pledged by Owen Murfin (SHR 1987-1994) to the Bursaries and Scholarships Fund if 30 new donors make a donation. If you have considered making a donation to any of our chosen Giving Day funds in the past but have not yet donated, now is your chance to help us meet the challenge.
With a busy day ahead on our first Giving Day, you can follow on the Giving Day website. You don't need to log in. Just go to www.ccbgivingday.com to view progress or make a donation.
