Match Report

Summer, even the Indian one, has well and truly gone! However, early torrential downpour gave way to a dry, bright and sunny day, 'though very windy and testing!!

After a seemingly endless two years forced interval, hosting the day on behalf of Wycliffe, Adrian Hurley's organisation was like clockwork - bacon baps and coffee, always welcome and rapidly consumed, set us on our way suitably fortified.

A two-tee start (1st and 9th), to ensure reasonable time spent on the course, had all the O.B. team playing with Dean Close, starting on the 1st and 9th

Our line-up :-

Jonathan Arter, Tom Atkin, Gwyn Jones, Mark Wilson, Kevin Noble, Ian Wilson, Llyr Raw-Rees and Richard Thomas– results were :-

1st Old Decanians – 111 points

2nd Old Wycliffians – 108 points

3rd Old Cheltonians – 106 points

4th Old Breconians - 104 points

5th Old Bromsgrovians and Old Malvernians - 99 points

A very close contest!

Just one minor hiccup in our otherwise flawless organisation:- at the outset we were asked to field two O.B. teams to even up the playing numbers; we were half way towards sorting this when Llandovery pulled out, so sadly our half a team had to be stood down. However, all was not quite lost – Duncan Jones and Steffan Raw-Rees stayed on and played a very sociable single after all the teams had started; they also stayed for dinner.

And a real bonus – we were also joined for dinner on our table by Emma Taylor, former Head of Christ College and now Head of Dean Close.

As ever, an excellent dinner and great company, fuelled by appropriate libation – a happy and very welcome day indeed.

Next year will be at Royal Porthcawl on 30th September 2022, organised by Cheltenham.
