While a CCB schoolboy I enjoyed rifle shooting with Eric Pollard at the TA range at the far end of town. In 1964 and only 16 years old, I was about to set off to the range with my great friends John (Slug) Raymond and Robert (Frank) Bruce. We were called over by Captain (Snudge) Bradley who needed our help to deliver three machine guns to TA staff at the range.

We set off on foot, with one Bren Light Machine Gun and two STEN Guns, crossing over the river bridge. Frank said he needed to cash a 10-shilling postal order, so we turned right after the bridge, past the old flea pit cinema and went into the Post Office. Slug and I looked after Frank's gun while he went to the counter.

With cash in Frank's pocket, we strolled out of the building with our guns and successfully delivered them to the TA range that was in a turning off the Watton. I am not sure, but I do not think this would happen today.

PS - The machine guns were not loaded just in case you were worried.
