Back in 1986 Erik Staebe came to CCB for a term. This September we welcome his daughter Mascha to Donnies. Not only is she the first daughter of an OB from Germany but she is one of 46 (a record) OB children in CCB this coming term.

After CCB Erik returned home to do his German A-levels then went on to study law at the Göttingen and Bristol Universities. He continued his legal education at the Court of Appels in Hamburg with periods in London and Brussels.

Going on to obtain a PhD (Hamburg) then working in law firms in Frankfurt and Berlin as well as in the German Federal Ministry for Economics. Since 2007 he has worked for the Legal Service of Deutsche Bahn(national railway company of Germany, and a state-owned enterprise under the control of the German government. Headquartered in the Bahntower in Berlin, it is a joint-stock company), heading the department for Regulatory Law. DB has subsidiaries all over the world and so makes good use of the skills and experiences he gathered at CCB,

Back in 2017 he was listed in the Legal 500 Power List - when he was the head of antitrust procedure and regulatory law within the central legal department of Deutsche Bahn, a position he has held since 2007. Recent highlights of Dr Staebe's in-house career have been several abuse dominance cases before the EU commission including judicial review of dawn raid proceedings before the European Court of Justice. He has also worked on two treaty infringement proceedings by the EU Commission against Germany in which Deutsche Bahn worked for the Federal Government, as well as several proceedings before the civil and administrative courts in various jurisdictions for the Deutsche Bahn companies on regulatory and antitrust issues including private enforcement cases. Through this all-round involvement, Dr Staebe has learnt that he needs to be a 'business-minded, quick and always one step ahead of your internal client to provide quick but solid, sound but creative, cutting edge legal advice'. Dr Staebe has made himself part of the commercial decision making process by actively participating in internal processes relevant to all fields of law, in order to solve the problem even before it arises, moulding himself into a role model within the wider company.
