Selecting 41 objects

The 41 objects on display in the 15 facts 41 objects exhibition were selected mainly by public ballot in a wide-ranging exhibition in which visitors were offered a selection of potential objects and asked "what would you choose?". Visitors were given three marbles and asked to cast votes for their favourite three objects. Choices were often surprising, with key historical documents sometimes eschewed in favour of photographs and memorabilia that offered insights into the life of the school during a particular era.

One of the most popular objects in the exhibition is a photograph of boys in a rowing boat on the canal (Object 13), and it remains a popular favourite with visitors. Taken in 1905 and redolent of its time, it was voted by visitors as the most liked image on display.

The object that received the highest number of votes was the 1958 match ball from the game which Christ College won at Llandovery (3-6) for the first time since 1924. Today the laced rugby ball (Object 30) is not just an object of interest because it symbolizes a tradition. For pupils unused to grappling with heavy, soapy leather in Brecon rain, the material it is made from holds as much interest as the tradition it embodies.

The other objects on display are equally wide-ranging - from a 1913 school photograph to 2013 plans for Y Neuadd Goffa, and from a 1916 War List to a 2016 leavers hoodie. All of them will appear in these pages as we rebuild the exhibition online.
