Bursary Fund

The Governors of Christ College are committed to broadening access to the school by offering to eligible parents/guardians means-tested financial support with payment of school fees. This allows parents to apply to Christ College when in normal circumstances they would not have considered doing so.

Such support is known as a Bursary and these may be awarded in the form of a remission of up to 100% on tuition fees, depending on the financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances of the applicants, including the number of children in the family. Pupils holding bursaries may also be given help with travel and other expenses.

In the coming years we will be focusing on Bursaries as part of our mission to allow as many children as possible to benefit from a Christ College education. Please do consider supporting the Bursary Fund to help us achieve this aim.

Pranj Pokharel

Pranj benefitted from financial support from Mr Kelvin Bryon, a parent of OBs and a generous benefactor to CCB.

"I feel so lucky to have been able to experience education at CCB because of my scholarship. Christ College recognised my academic drive and equipped me with skills to tackle my medical interviews, which resulted in me being able to pursue my dream degree. I got to understand the importance of independence from the boarding houses which has helped me adjust to university life a lot more easily. Even now two years on my heart is still with CCB and I am able to help prospective students wanting to go into medicine. The impact I personally felt from receiving a scholarship inspires me to one day give back to another future student who hopefully will be as grateful as I was."

Faye Fallon

Faye benefitted from financial support from the family of the late Dr Peter Powell who was a generous benefactor to CCB for many years.

"I was very lucky to receive generous funding from the Old Breconian network, which made it possible for me to attend Christ College Brecon for Sixth Form in 2019. This experience opened up many opportunities that would not have been available to me otherwise, as a young person in foster care (from which only about 6% go on to higher education). I was able to develop my talents academically thanks to the support of the amazing teaching and pastoral staff, helping me to successfully secure a place at the University of Oxford, where I currently study Politics, Philosophy, and Economics. Thanks to the financial support provided by a scholarship, bursary, and sponsorship, I am now studying my dream course at my dream University. I especially enjoyed getting involved in sports at CCB and am now also proudly Netball Captain of Brasenose College. I would love to see more young people from backgrounds similar to mine be supported to achieve their dreams and would encourage any OB to donate if they are in a position to do so.”
