A brilliant day of sevens rugby was had by all at the Colston's U18 boys rugby 7s tournament on Sunday. The tournament was a resounding success and thankfully the weather was kind for the day! Fast-paced rugby was the order of the day as sixteen schools competed in thirty six matches for the Tom Varndell Cup, presented by the Old Colstonian himself. “What an occasion”, said Tom, “it's great to be back to see Colstons' proud rugby tradition flourishing”.
Pitch 3 was a feast of rugby for the many attending spectators and for those watching on YouTube from around the world, who were treated to some very professional commentary and footage from NextGenXV. Eleven games were live streamed including the Bowl, Plate and Cup finals.
Silverware was picked up by Kingswood School, who claimed the trophy, while Whitchurch High School won the Bowl in a closely contested final against Prior Park College. A local derby between Queen Elizabeth's Hospital and Bristol Grammar School resulted in QEH picking up the Plate.
The Tom Varndell Cup Final was a fiercely contested match, with Christ College Brecon running out eventual winners over King's College, Taunton. The day proved to be a spectacular showcase of the up and coming talent in schools rugby. 181pts for 25 against.
