On Sunday 7 May 2023 Christ College will be hosting the Coronation Mountain Challenge. Open to parents, staff, Old Breconians and the general public, it follows on from last year’s successful inaugural Mountain Challenge event.
With a choice of three routes, the Mountain Challenge is suited to all abilities. It is also a fundraiser for the Christ College Brecon Foundation and the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team (MRT).
The MRT will be manning checkpoints on the route and providing event safety communications. Fabian4, a specialist mountain event company will be providing individual tracking and records of competitor timings.
The Routes
10 mile route. A low level route using footpaths, roads and the canal towpath: CCB – Dinas Lane – Llanfrynach – Pencelli and back to CCB.
13 mile route. A mainly high level route: CCB – Cwm Cynwyn – Pen y Fan – Corn Ddu and descend via Cwm Llwych.
23 mile route. Extension of 13 mile route – Bwlch Ddwyallt – Fan y Big descending via Corn Ddu, the Obelisk and the Drovers Road from Storey Arms.
A competent level of navigation skills will be required for the 13 and 23 mile routes.
