The Brecon Choir Festival celebrates its fifth edition this July (16–19 July) with world-class vocal ensembles and community choruses coming together for what The Guardian has called a “unique and ambitious celebration of song and choral music”.
This year’s line-up includes The Gesualdo Six, Cappella Lacensis from Germany, The Lyons Mouth and Côr Llundain, with the Festival theme, “In Every Corner Sing”, inspired by the Powys-born poet and priest George Herbert.
Christ College is delighted to be hosting two events as part of the Festival weekend, both on Festival Saturday 18 July.
First, at Y Neuadd, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, will give a talk entitled “George Herbert and Our Modern Afflictions”. He will explore Herbert’s relevance for modern life, and how his writing can help us navigate today’s search for meaning.
Following Dr Williams’ lecture, the Breugel Consort will perform a special concert in the Chapel: “Behold My Affliction! Sacred Lamentations in Renaissance England”. The programme will feature masterpieces of sacred music from the 15th and 16th centuries.
